Salome Kitomari is a Tanzanian Senior Journalist who holds a Bachelor Degree in Mass Communication and has 18 years expirience in journalism. She has won more than 12 journalism awards in different categories, including Tourism, Conservation, Investigative Journalism and human right. Salome was the overall winner on Excellence in Journalism Awards in Tanzania (EJAT) for the year 2018. EJAT is the most prestigious Journalism competition in Tanzania.
She is a chairperson of Media Institute of Southern Africa, Tanzania Chapter (Misa-Tan) and Treasure for MISA that stands for Freedom of Expression and Right to Information. Currently, she is senior reporter and Assistant News Editor for Nipashe newspaper; her daily responsibilities include collecting stories, writing, editing, and mentoring upcoming journalists.
She is a trainer of gender and media, investigative reporting, story telling and solution journalism.Salome has exposure on reporting international issues including the 2016 USA Primary Elections, African Union Heads of State summit and Women in News Summit. She is among few journalists who covered.
Constitutional, National Assemblies in Tanzania and General Election, and has attended a number of courses including Media Management for women; implemented by World Association of Newspaper and News Publishers (Wan-fra); Investigative and multimedia journalism Conducted by US Embassy in Dar es Salaam and a six months training program for reporting on oil, gas and Mining conducted by Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI).
Salome was among fellows in a one month Media Management and Advocacy Fellow under European Union (EU), a two months Women in Media program by Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) and a six months fellowship in Industrialization, Innovation and infrastructures, Conducted by Tanzania Media Foundation.
